in which we convince ourselves of what we truly doubt
2003-10-19 @ 6:44 p.m.

Have you ever been invited to a small get-together of friends, the purpose of which you know to not be what everyone is saying the purpose is?

Have you ever been the only one who would acknowledge why you're all there, except that you know that not only would all the others never admit to what they all know to be true, but in fact you would be singled and and crucified for having brought to light what they would rather you had not?

Have you ever been the late-comer to a party of people who are straining to have a good time so hard that some kid who's listened to too much hip-hop could walk in and spray the place with bullets, and they would still try to have a good time?

Have you ever avoided near-hourly phone calls for a couple days straight, only to finally concede that it might be easier to suffer their presence in their presence, as opposed to suffering it in a place that is supposed to be your fortress of solitude?

Have you ever wondered how you ever got so popular that people who obviously know you're avoiding them simply won't take the hint?

Can you recall how joyous you felt to finally give in and hang with them, considering they already knew you'd rather not be there?

You know, I think it is times like these that have made certain that drugs (including the legal ones) have remained as popular as they have.

"Know what, I can't stand my friends ... luckily, by tomorrow I won't remember the time I spent with them!"

Feh. As someone once said, "Tonight you can't put me up on anyone's shelf -- because I came here alone, and I'm gonna leave by myself..."

Happy Sunday, y'all.
